It is no secret that Nvidia struggled with the launch of RTX 3080. With unprecedented demand that left customers stuck in checkout and not enough inventory to cover every customer . Nvidia has decided to postpone the release of the RTX 3070 for two weeks. the new launch date for these cards will be October 29th 2020. This will allow them some added time to get there inventory levels up to help supply the demand on launch day.
“Production of GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards are ramping quickly. We’ve heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th.” – Nvidia
As previously reported the nVidia launch of the RTX 3080 was a bit of a disaster. Leading nVidia to apologies about there mistake. nVidia have been criticized around the web not only for the lack of product. But for issues with the cards crashing. The performance issues have since been fixed with the 456.55 driver release. Now they are still trying to correct there wrongs but postponing the release of the 3070 while they ramp up production.
nVidia might not be out of the clear yet. Scalpers where all over the release of the 3080. With prices for the cards going well above 1,000 on eBay. Remember the RTX 3070 at $500 USD is suppose to offer performance similar to the RTX 2080 Ti at half the price. For a entry level card it is going to pack a punch, With the odds of it being a bigger seller than the 3080 as the performance and price are to good to pass up. Even with the added two weeks of production. I can still imagine nVidia selling out and not holding up to the demand. Leaving customers once again with a sour taste in the mouth.
